Information & Instructions

User Account

At the beginning of your studies/period of service the data center issues a user account for you. This account enables you to login in systems like NextcloudiLearn, PCs, VPN - Virtual Private Network, etc.

Students

A student's user name has the following structure:

  • 1st letter of first name
  • 1st letter of last name
  • Day of birth (2 digits)
  • The last 3 digits of your matriculation number

unfolds to e.g. Anna Berger, born on 12-04-1997, matriculation number 438345: ab12345

Staff

An employee's user name has the following structure:

  • 1st letter of first name
  • Last name

unfolds to e.g. Max Mustermann: mmustermann

Home Directory

Depending on faculty and department students and staff are offered some storage space also known as the home directory. If you're logged on the the domain this directory is already mapped as drive I:.

Please save all data which is not meant for public viewing exclusively in your home directory

By no means save data on your desktop or local folders because the duration of your PC login will be delayed significantly.

E-Mail Account

At the beginning of your studies/period of service the data center issues an e-mail account for you. This account enables you to login into the e-mail system including webmail system as well as clients on PC or smartphone.

Students

A student's e-mail account user name equals the e-mail address which has the following structure:

  • firstname.lastname@stud.th-deg.de

If an e-mail address with that name already exists a digit will be appended to your last name, e.g.: stefan.meier2@stud.th-deg.de

Personal

An employee's e-mail account user name equals the e-mail address which has the following structure:

  • firstname.lastname@th-deg.de

If an e-mail address with that name already exists a digit will be appended to your last name, e.g.: stefan.meier2@th-deg.de

De-matriculation

On the day of your exmatriculation all accounts relating to Deggendorf Institute of Technology are deactivated and can no longer be used. This also applies to your home directory and your student e-mail account. Please remember this in time and secure your personal data. If you set up a forwarder for your e-mail mailbox, you may receive incoming e-mail messages also a few weeks after your exmatriculation.

New Study / Change of study course

With a new study a new user account is created. The existing e-mail account remains (including the old password), only the distribution list membership is adjusted.

Official name changes

If your name changes for official reasons (e.g. wedding, divorce, etc.), please inform us by e-mail to rz-support@th-deg.de. We will then change your e-mail address accordingly (user name does not change).

Account blockings / deletions

The following applies in general: In the period between blocking and deletion, all e-mails will be sent to your mailbox. They can also be read if you've setup an e-mail forwarder before.

Students

User and e-mail accounts are blocked at the time of de-matriculation and deleted after 4 weeks.

Staff

User and e-mail accounts are blocked at the time of termination of the contract and deleted after two weeks. Exception visiting lecturers: These accounts will be deleted after a break of one semester.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology uses Shibboleth for authentication, among other things. Shibboleth is a method for distributed authentication and authorization for web applications and web services. The concept of Shibboleth is that the user only has to authenticate once at his home institution in order to be able to access services or licensed content from different providers regardless of location (single sign-on).
