E-Mail-System

Information & Instructions

Webmail

The following Webmail system is available for web-based access to your mailbox and the sending of e-mails: Roundcube

Default e-mail client: Mozilla Thunderbird

If you want to use a conventional e-mail client instead of webmail, Mozilla Thunderbird is available. If you log on to the domain stud or pers, you will already find the icon for Thunderbird on the desktop. The data center has pre-configured the Thunderbird for you, so you only need to double-click the icon. The application will ask you for a password when fetching and sending the e-mails.

The most important connection data

If you are using other e-mail clients, you will find the most important data for the configuration here. As a user name, you always use the complete e-mail address (e.g. firstname.lastname@stud.th-deg.de or firstname.lastname@th-deg.de) for the incoming and outgoing mail server.

Remarks

The directory service (address book) and the ports for IMAP and POP3 on the server mail.th-deg.de are only available on the intranet. Via Webmail, however, the directory service can also be used on the internet.

The ports for IMAP and POP3 on the server mail.th-deg.de are only accessible via VPN from the internet. When using the server imapproxy.th-deg.de, however, the IMAP port is also accessible from the internet.

When sending e-mails, port 25 is mandatory for TLS (TransportLayerSecurity). This authenticates you as a valid user to the e-mail system.

Particularities when using Outlook: The option Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) must not be enabled.

Port 25 (SMTP with no encryption, for example when using GMX, Web.de, etc.) is blocked for outgoing e-mails in order to prevent the sending of spam e-mails.
