The Data Centre provides secure access to the university’s IT services via a VPN:
- A VPN allows a secure connection (authentication, data is transmitted in encrypted form) to be established with the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences’ network. In principle, a tunnel is established over an existing internet connection; an existing internet connection (of any kind) is therefore a prerequisite. Authentication is carried out using the university’s user ID.
- With a VPN connection, all users who dial into the university network via external providers can access all services restricted to the Deggendorf Institute of Technology’s address range (e.g. SZ-Online).
- Communication security is provided by SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), ensuring that data is transmitted in a way that cannot be intercepted.
- When the VPN connection is established, the client device is automatically assigned an IP address from the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences’ address range.
- Once you have established a VPN connection to the THD, all data traffic is routed via the university’s VPN gateway!
Once you have established a VPN connection to THD, all data traffic will be routed via the university’s VPN gateway!
To access certain THD content, you must be on campus and connected to the ‘Eduroam’ Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, you will need to connect to the university network via a VPN. THD uses EduVPN for this purpose.
